THE HISTORY

The first annual Moose Mountain Trail Races (Moose Mountain Marathon & 10 Mile Telephone Run) was held September 12, 1992 by the Rolling Hills Marathon, Running Room, Running Room Club, Calgary Road Runners, Bow Valley Runners & the Community of Bragg Creek. The event was created to carry on the tradition of the Rolling Hills Marathon.

Rolling Hills Marathon was created in 1971 by Fritz and Mitzi Mansch with the assistance of the Wiebe’s & local residents. The event provided a unique experience including a challenging course, awards and a celebration lunch. This community tradition continued for 21 years before it was updated with Moose Mountain Marathon & 10 Mile Telephone Run.

Moose Mountain Marathon & 10 Mile Telephone Run was designed to be an identical experience to the Rolling Hills Marathon; different from Rolling Hills in detail but same in offering something unique and supportive to the running community. Fritz Mansch also had donated the Rolling Hills Challenge Cup for presentation to the winner of Moose Mountain Marathon.

Moose Mountain Trail Races continued on the tradition of Moose Mountain Marathon & 10 Mile Telephone Run and Rolling Hills Marathon until its final sanction race on August 24, 2019. For 26 years, this run event gave back to community, celebrated many successes and left all runners, volunteers, organizers and supporters with incredible memories. Race Director of The Lewiston Ultra events, Kara Leinweber, was fortunate to be included as volunteer Race Director along side Alan Lam & Jen Silverthorn in the final 4 years of Moose Mountain Trail Races.

The Lewiston Ultra is beyond honored to continue the traditions of the Moose Mountain Trail Races and host an exceptional run experience, community connection and give back to Love for Lewiston & community. The Lewiston Ultra Moose Mountain will host its first sanctioned race on August 22, 2020.
